Nowadays, there are a number of ways to travel economically. The following are some tips on availing of cheap airline tickets.
Be flexible in terms of your time frame. Do a research on your trip before deciding on the exact date of travel. If you prioritize a cheap fare and spending time figuring out the best time for travel, you can take advantage of fluctuations in the season. But even if you can't be flexible regarding your travel period, you can still test out different fares on a range of days of the week, or even at different times, to find out the most economical flight within a given time frame. As per experience, flights are cheaper when the arrival or departure is on a Saturday, Tuesday, or Wednesday although we shouldn't generalize.
As a matter of timing, think over the travel seasons of the year. Round-trip flights are expensive during high season. High season is usually from June through August. So during these months, flights are usually expensive. Timing is very crucial when you travel. The month of May is before summer and the middle of July through early August is the height of summer. So you should consider May as a travel month. Through experience, during the months of January and February, airfares have a good price. Through our observation, the cheapest travel period is from the middle of January through March and from the middle of November through the middle of December. The most expensive travel period is from June through August then from the middle of December through early January. Shoulder season, when fares are mid-range, is on April, May, and from September through late November.
You might also want to change your usual airline. The airline benefits seem to have grown measly. Your frequent flyer miles get less and less useable. Understandably you get frustrated, maybe its time to avail of other airline services.
Surf multiple booking sites before buying your ticket. These sites can help you search for the lowest fare possible. Try searching also for same rate comparison sites for different airports.
Try flying via courier flights. Courier flights present discounted fares in exchange for the courier to transport administrative materials.
Try an alternate route to get to your destination. Sometimes connecting flights offer cheaper fares when a different route is taken. For example, you are traveling to the Philippines from New York. Your usual route is via Detroit through Narita airport in Japan then on to Manila. You might find a San Francisco-Hawaii-Korea route much cheaper.
